4x100 Mixed Meter Relay
The 4x100 meter relay event is also known as the sprint relay event. It is a track event held on the 400 meter running track. During the race, the track is divided into four legs, each of 100 meter length with WOMEN assigned on the 2nd and 3rd legs. The number of athletes competing in each relay team is four. Generally, the runners carry a baton with them at the time of running. The baton must be passed from one runner using his/her right hand to the left hand of the receiving athlete during the race within the “TAKE-OVER” zone. Often, various strategies are taken by the teams to win the relay races. The last runner in the relay team is known as the "anchor". The anchor is generally the fastest runner of the team. |
RULES/NOTES
- The track will be properly marked at every 100 meter. This is essential to denote the distance covered in the legs.
- The area where the baton is passed to the next runner is known as the "take-over zone". The length of the take-over zone is 20 meter.
- Runners are not allowed to leave or change their respective lanes.
- The baton has to be passed from one athlete to the other within the specified area known as the take-over zone. Right hand for the passer and left for the receiver.
- The athletes are not permitted to wear gloves or use any substances which can enable them to have a better grip on the baton.
- Obstructing others' way during the race is a punishable offence. The athlete found to hinder others' pace deliberately can be disqualified from the competition.
- The athletes should remain in their respective lanes even after handing over the baton and after receiving the baton.
- If an athlete goes out of the track during the race, a point deduction should be imposed from the organizing team.
- An athlete with two consecutive false starts is disqualified from the competition.
- The team unable to finish the race is not given any credit for their performance.
100 meter Sprint ( Men and Women )
Athletics had been contested at ancient fairs and festivals as a part of the religious ceremonies. This event has been always held throughout the history of sports. The traditional sprint event is the 100 meter race run on a straight line. On the oval shaped outdoor track, the race is started from an extended portion of the track to allow the sprinters to run in a straight line. The 100 meter sprint event is the most esteemed sport event among the athletes. The world record holder in the event is given the title of the world's fastest athlete. |

RULES
- Any sprinter with a false start will be warned after the first attempt. After the next false start, he will be disqualified.
- Obstructing others' way during the race is a punishable offence. The athlete found to hinder others' pace deliberately can be disqualified from the competition.
- The athlete is not given any credit if he or she does not finish the race.
- The time of the event has to be measured with a permitted automatic timing device.
